Kenicke
Kenicke were formed in Sunderland in 1994 and much like Elastica were an all-female line-up bar the Drummer.
They were fronted by Lauren Laverne whose vocal style kept her North East accent as she snarled her way through their Pop Punk influenced setlists.
Interestingly she would share vocal duties with Guitarist Marie Du Santiago.
They had a fairly short career, releasing just two albums but they achieved recognition in the mid 90’s thanks to singles “In Your Car”, “Nightlife” and “Punka”.
They split in 1998 with Lauren Laverne going on to become a presenter for ITV, Channel 3 and BBC 2 as well as having a daily radio show on BBC 6 music.
