Garbage
Formed in Wisconsin, USA in 1993 Garbage are the only band on the list not from the UK.
But not to fear as Lead Singer and all-round legend Shirley Manson is from Edinburgh, Scotland.
The band made a name for themselves by producing hard-edged Indie Rock songs that still held a commercial appeal.
Their lyrical content was genuinely edgy and their image was closer to that of an Industrial band than an Indie band.
They had massive success with their self-titled debut album, which spawned five big hit singles including “I’m Only Happy When It Rains”, “Stupid Girl”, “Vow”, “Queer”, and “Milk”, which featured Massive Attack’s Tricky.
Follow up “Version 2.0” gave them even more success with more hit singles.
The band even did the theme song for 1999’s James Bond movie “The World Is Not Enough”.
Their latest release “Strange Little Birds” was released in 2016 and Shirley Manson has gone on to become an iconic advocate of Women’s rights.
