The season of the witch may have past but there's always time to play some spooky videogames right?\n\n\n\nSometimes you just want to have the wits scared out of you. \n\n\n\nSpooky Videogames Are What You Need \n\n\n\nSure a Horror movie classic or two can do this but if you want something more interactive then playing some spooky videogames will be the thing to do.\n\n\n\nWe got this covered for you if you need some ideas!\n\n\n\nSo, whether you\u2019re after some kitsch fun or some genuine terror join us as we look at ten perfectly spooky videogames to play on Halloween or any time of the year.\n\n\n\nMediEvil (1998)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat better place to start than MediEvil is there anything more Halloween than wandering around as a Skeleton while hacking apart your enemies.\n\n\n\nMediEvil was great fun as well as being a deeply engrossing\ngame. \n\n\n\nSet in 1286 you play as Sir Daniel Fortesque, a Charlatan\nwho needs to redeem himself by defeating the evil Zarok who accidentally\nreanimated the corpse of Sir Daniel.\n\n\n\nGraphically it was heavily influenced by The Nightmare Before Christmas, making it a perfect game for Halloween.\n\n\n\nMediEvil also recently got a remake on the PS4 which is well\nworth checking out.\n\n\n\nResident Evil (1996)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery gamer is at least aware of Resident Evil and it\u2019s\nnotorious gameplay and content.\n\n\n\nIn case you\u2019ve been living under a rock, Resident Evil takes place in a mansion as members of Racoon City\u2019s special Police unit (S.T.A.R.S) investigate some cannibalistic murders.\n\n\n\nObviously it all goes horribly wrong and you\u2019re trapped in a\nsurvival horror the like of which hadn\u2019t been seen before. \n\n\n\nZombies and Infected Dogs jumping through windows await you\nin this classic horror game.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (2014)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHalloween is also about kids and Plants Vs Zombies is a\ngreat family game for Halloween.\n\n\n\nPlants Vs Zombies is a third-person team-based shooter where you take control of either anthropomorphic plants or zombies to take control of the garden.\n\n\n\nThe plants are great and take influence from classic horrors\nsuch as Day of the Triffids and Little Shop of Horrors.\n\n\n\nIt\u2019s great fun to play and very simple for younger players\nmaking it a brilliant alternative that all the family can get involved with.\n\n\n\nCastle Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (1990)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGoing way back to 1990 Castle of Illusion is a classic game\nthat\u2019s always worth revisiting.\n\n\n\nYou take control of Mickey Mouse as he tries to rescue\nMinnie from an evil Witch called Mizrabel. \n\n\n\nThe castle is full of freaky goings-on and you\u2019ll encounter some classic Halloween villains such as Giant Mushrooms, Toy Soldiers and Clowns.\n\n\n\nThis really is a MegaDrive classic that fits perfectly into any Halloween playlist.\n\n\n\nFatal Frame \/ Project Zero (2001)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFatal Frame is set in an abandoned Japanese mansion where a\nnumber of people have recently gone missing.\n\n\n\nYou play as a young girl named Miku who goes to the mansion\nto find her brother but she soon realises the mansion is very haunted.\n\n\n\nOk, so that all sounds pretty spooky but wait, there\u2019s more.\n\n\n\nThe player can\u2019t actually see the ghosts that are coming\nafter them, oh no, in order to see them you have to look through the camera\nwhich is also your only weapon.\n\n\n\nThis means that sometimes you\u2019ll spot a ghost in a distant\ncorner and other times you\u2019ll look through the viewfinder and boo! Horrific\nghost right in your face.\n\n\n\nThe whole game is incredibly atmospheric and in all honesty, you\u2019ll need serious nerve in order to get very far.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZombies Ate My Neighbors (1993)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you\u2019re looking for something different this Halloween then Zombies Ate My Neighbors could be the one for you.\n\n\n\nTake control of Zeke and Julie while they try to save their neighbors from a whole host of horror nasties.\n\n\n\nAs well as the Zombies you\u2019ll encounter Squid People,\nWerewolves, Vampires, Pod People, Blobs, UFOs and Chainsaw Psychopaths.\n\n\n\nThis game really does have everything you could want from a\nhorror game and it\u2019s genuinely challenging as well.\n\n\n\nAs our review also mentions it has a great atmospheric horror soundtrack too which really helps to get you in the mood.\n\n\n\nFriday the 13th The Game (2017)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho hasn\u2019t played a horror game and wondered what it would\nbe like to play the monster?\n\n\n\nWell, in Friday the 13th you actually get to play\nas the legendary Jason Voorhees as you hack and slash your way through teenage\ncampers at Camp Crystal Lake.\n\n\n\nFriday the 13th also has a great multiplayer mode\nwhere one person plays as Jason and the others are Camp Councillors trying to\nkill him.\n\n\n\nThe game also features loads of locations from the movie\nfranchise for a perfect nostalgia hit.\n\n\n\nCastlevania (1986)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnother classic game for Halloween has to be Castlevania.\n\n\n\nYou take control of Simon Belfort as you hunt down Count\nDracula in his Transylvanian castle and encounter many ghoulish horrors along\nthe way.\n\n\n\nThis is a classic side-scrolling NES game but it really is set apart by its fantastic level design and soundtrack.\n\n\n\nCastlevania has plenty of sequels and alternate versions but\nwe highly recommend you go back to the NES version to relive the classic.\n\n\n\nIt\u2019s also worth noting that Castlevania will soon be getting a re-release courtesy of the PC Engine Mini.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDungeon Keeper 2 (1999)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNot all games have to be hack and slash adventures and if\nyou prefer something a little more sedate then Dungeon Keeper 2 is for you.\n\n\n\nDungeon Keeper 2 is a dungeon building strategy game in\nwhich you take control of dungeons to assist the Horned Reaper.\n\n\n\nThe Horned Reaper needs to collect a series of Portal gems\nto allow the underworld to return to the kingdom of Harmonia.\n\n\n\nWhile managing your dungeons you get to torture its\ninhabitants in a variety of comically sadistic ways. \n\n\n\nIf you loved games like Sim City but wanted to explore your\ndark side then this was the game you needed in your life.\n\n\n\nSilent Hill (1999)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSilent Hill is an obvious choice on our list of spooky videogames but it deserves its place here as it remains one of the scariest games ever to be released.\n\n\n\nYou play as Harry Mason who was en route to the town for a\nvacation with his daughter Cheryl. \n\n\n\nThey crash before they get there and Harry wakes up in an\nabandoned town with a weird fog and snow falling from the sky.\n\n\n\nIt soon becomes apparent that there are things moving in the\nfog and things start going badly wrong from then on.\n\n\n\nSilent Hill tore up the rule book when it came out and became legendary for its relentless horror and twisted demonic creatures.\n\n\n\nWe all had nightmares after playing it, of Pyramid Head coming after us, surrounded by his twisted nurses.\n\n\n\nSo that concludes our picks of great games to play this\nHalloween. \n\n\n\nThere are of course plenty more great horror and spooky videogames so which are your favourites?\n\n\n\nWhy not let us know in the comments and join in the\ndiscussions.
