Neighbours
Back in the late 80’s and through the 90’s, EVERYONE watched Neighbours.
It was the thing to do and you could gossip about it with your chums at school and your nan as well.
If you were off school ill (or pretending to be to avoid P.E.), it gave a slight reprieve to the boredom of daytime TV when it was on at 1.35pm (after the news…booooring!).
However, you were then left wondering what to do at 5.35pm when you would normally watch it when your friends were so couldn’t call them about what happened until it had finished.
There were so many classic moments such as Scott and Charlene’s wedding, Henry losing his towel, Stephanie taking off her glasses, the hilarious long term feud between Lou and Harold and that time when Paul Robinson kissed the wrong twin in the middle of the night.
Ah, those were the days and if you still watch it (now on Channel 5) then it’s probably because you started watching it back in the day and kudos to you!
Grange Hill
You get home from school, put on Childrens BBC and after Newsround you got to go to school again, well, not yours but the East London comprehensive, Grange Hill.
This show was on for decades and wasn’t shy about covering social topics as they were including drugs (Just Say No), sex and tons of other teenage and social issues that were relevant to our age group at the time.
Years later you’d end up seeing many of the main characters appearing on EastEnders too.
