Total Annihilation

We reviewed Total Annihilation a while back and we’re still blown away by how advanced this game was and the fact that it’s still just as good as when it first came out back in 1997.
The Commander pack is the one to get as it includes all the expansion packs and will literally keep you busy for weeks.
The game was one of the first to have 3D units to control and a huge variety of missions from land battles, to huge naval engagements and air wars it has everything.
Total Annihilation has a novel way of letting you collect resources to build up your forces as you need both power and metal to make your army of robots and when the latter is lacking you can collect up the dead hulks of your enemies or fallen comrades and re-purpose them in to new weapons of war.
With all the expansions it will take a good couple of weeks to get through them all and you’ll enjoy every minute of it.
Command Conquer Red Alert 2

Released back in 2002, Red Alert 2 was the pinnacle of RTS games before 3D came along.
It’s epic fun and has a great story line throughout and has some utterly bonkers weapons for you to use and has some great problem solving moments amongst all the action.
The Uri’s Revenge expansion pack adds more mission and even more outrageous weapons to play with and completes the story of the alternate reality war between the Soviets and the Allies.
It’s available on EA’s Origin platform and there’s mod’s aplenty for this classic game to keep things fresh long after you’ve played the single player campaigns, heck there’s still servers you can connect to battle players from all over the world online as well.
