10 Alternative 90’s Horror Movies You Need To Watch

Last updated:

So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993)

Ok, so this is 100% a comedy movie but it has a strong Horror theme and fits well in any horror collection.

Mike Myers plays a beat poet who meets a woman who might well be a mass murderer.

This is a classic Mike Myers comedy and when things get out of hand it’s a good fun horror as well.

Myers also plays his own father in the film which is hilarious.

So I Married an Axe Murderer is also insanely quotable and will have you singing “Woman, Woah Man, Wooooooooman” over and over again.

In The Mouth of Madness (1994)

John Carpenter is a master of horror and In the Mouth of Madness is one of his finest works.

Sam Neill stars as a psychiatric patient who used to be an insurance investigator.

He tells the story of Sutter Cane, a horror novelist who had gone missing after his agent went mad and murdered his family.

It seems his whereabouts can be found in his unreleased manuscript but with his last novel causing madness and psychotic rage should it be read?

Even worse his publicist, played by Charlton Heston, wants to unleash the manuscript into the public.

This is a tense and brutal horror that gets right into your psyche from the get-go.

Flatliners (1990)

Flatliners stars Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and William Baldwin who play junior doctors who experiment on themselves to discover the afterlife.

The premise is somewhat absurd but the great cast make this a true classic.

The doctors essentially take turns in dying and being revived but their addiction to the afterlife starts to get out of control as they crave longer and longer times before they’re brought back.

This was recently remade so do yourself a favour and watch the original instead, it’s one hundred percent better.
