Classic UK TV adverts that will bring back happy memories

They certainly don't make them like they used to. Long before we had the ability to fast forward through ads on catchup or skip them entirely through streaming we had to endure adverts on the TV. Luckily there were some great ones that we didn't mind watching when they came on. Some were catchy and funny and we all had our favourites. We take a look back at some of the classic UK TV adverts that we still remember and loved seeing when they came on back in the 80's and early 90's. Scotch Video Tape Who can forget Archie the Skeleton the star of the Scotch video tape, this was before the world was introduced to Sky+ and record-able TV. When you would be racing through your video collection to find a blank video or a old video to record over. Kids of today... you don't know how lucky you are!! Vitalite A memorable advert for the Vitalite spread saw the singing sun and sunflowers singing their hearts out 'Wake up in the morning wantin' some breakfast. What am I going to put on my toast? Ohhhh Ohhhh Vitalite. Cadbury's Caramel Take it easy with a Cadbury's Caramel. Why they ever got rid of the caramel bunny or the original yellow packaging for the Cadbury's Caramel we will never know. Kinder Surprise A creepy looking giant egg aka the Kinder Egg man sitting on a wall speaking gibberish until he falls off. Apparently this advert was rather disturbing for young children so eventually got banned. The California Raisins The California Raisins where the fictional rhythm and blues dancing, singing raisins who graced our TV screens with their rendition of 'Heard it through the grapevine'. Sugar Puffs 'Don't forget to tell them about the honey Mummy' kids went crazy for the Honey Monster and were all slyly trying to chuck a box of the cereal into the trolley. With the slogan 'You'll Go Monster Mad For The Honey' the advert saw kids turning into the Honey Monster to get to the tasty cereal, and the Honey Monster destroying everything in his site to get at a box Sugar Puffs. Mars So apparently a Mars a day makes you work, rest and play. This is what the advert made us believe in the 80's. Aquafresh Remember the cartoon family standing at the sink brushing their teeth with Aquafresh and the catchy tune about the stripes in the toothpaste? Kia Ora A crow in a sharp suit and a boy who's pet dog lives inside his hat. The crows like the taste of Kia Ora so end up following the boy around and giving him a helping hand just for a taste of Kia Ora juice. Weetabix The Weetabix gang where a gang of (Weetabix) skinhead, who's members were Dunk, Crunch, Brains, Brian and Bixie. Where you one of the lucky kids to join the Weetabix Club? Captain Birdseye Captain Birdseye was the cheery sailor who said 'Only the best for the Captains table' during the 50 years that this advert reigned. We think they should bring back Captain Birdseye instead of the new family advertising the Fish Fingers. Chewits Starring The Muncher who liked to chew buildings until he comes across a pack of Chewits and has a chew on those instead. Monster Munch With its four main original Monster Munch characters Pink Monster, Blue Monster, Yellow Monster and Orange Monster, these Monsters represented each flavour of the Smiths Crisps (remember Smiths crisps). Um Bongo The Um Bongo advert featured a variety of animated jungle creatures contributing a different tropical fruit to the drink. The theme tune was voted one of the UK'S Top Ten catchiest advertising jingles. PG Tips Who can forget the PG Tips advert with the PG chimps? The chimps were known as the Tipps family and where made to wear human clothes whilst lip synching to comedy actors voices. Oxo One of Britains most loved and remembered adverts was the Oxo Gravy advert. The Oxo family featured in a seris of 42 advertisments until the campaign ended in 1999. Creature Comforts Another favorite advert was the series of Creature Comfort adverts which advertised the Electricity Board. The series involved characters such as a tortoise, a cat, a family of penguins and a Brazilian parrot who were in their homes talking to an unseen interviewer behind a large microphone.
