The Biggest Drum & Bass Anthems Of 1996

Following our article on the Top 10 Happy Hardcore Anthems of ’96 we decided it would be fun to look at the other genres of the Rave scene and the tunes that were rocking them twenty odd years ago.

This time, it’s the turn of the heavyweights, that’s right it’s Drum & Bass time.

1996 was an exciting time in the Drum & Bass scene, The Jungle sound was slowly being overtaken with the more linear two-step beats and the scene was splitting between the dark Hard Edge sound and the more happy Jump Up style.

So sit back and let us take you on a journey through our Perfect 10 Drum & Bass Anthems of ’96.

Origin Unknown – Valley of the Shadows (Awake ’96 Mix)

Probably the biggest D&B track of the ‘90s if not all time! Valley of the Shadows is proper Old Skool Jungle roller.

With its epic twinkling synth line and “Long dark tunnel” vocal it ignited dance floors up and down the country.

It reached new heights in ’96 courtesy of the Awake Mix, which changed very little of the original other than a bigger bassline. If the original hadn’t been released in ’93 this would have been number 1 on the list, no doubt.
