The Running Of The Santa’s
Be it Philadelphia or New Orleans in America, the Running of the Santa’s is essentially a bar crawl. The weekend before Christmas Day, thousands of revellers dressed as Santa will congregate at a designated bar, deemed the ‘South Pole’ for that year.
They then ‘Run’ (or stagger) along a set route, stopping at each establishment for one drink, and then finishing at a venue that has been nominated as the ‘North Pole’ for that year. It sounds like absolute carnage, and yet we could see it catching on, certainly in countries that view heavy drinking as normal behaviour, like erm… England.
Whale Blubber For Christmas Dinner
Never mind boring old turkey and Christmas pudding, how about some Mattak?
Amazingly, this is raw whale skin wrapped around some lovely blubber! Sounds delicious, and if you live in Greenland that’s exactly what you would be served up, as a special treat. The delicacies don’t stop there either.
There’s also Kiviak; whole Auk birds sewn up into a seal carcass, fermented for seven months and then served directly to your plate! Mmm-mm! With a menu that good, we couldn’t see there being any left-overs for Boxing Day.
